Documentary project for NYU. Basically, we were not allowed to do talking head-type interviews--the movie had to be purely observational-style a la the Maysles Brothers or Frederick Wiseman. Thought it might be interesting to see what goes on backstage of a live performance, denying access to the performance itself, only experiencing it indirectly. Instead of the traditional linear narrative, I tried starting with the post-performance accolades and working backwards, peeling away layers of process until we were left with the artist alone in the solitary moments of creation. Call it an experiment.
