Semper Fi

This is a project from NYU, and probably the one I feel I got closest to pulling off.  Here I was trying to channel the Coen Brothers.  Fargo was a big movie for me.  I spent some time in grad school as the projectionist in a small art house movie theater, and one of the perks of the job was that since I had keys to the theater and knew how to run the projectors, I could hold little private screenings for my friends late night, or even just run a movie for myself.  Fargo came to the theater at one point, and I spent more than one night sitting alone in one of the theaters, after the late show had let out, watching Ethan and Joel's masterpiece on the big screen.  Their incredibly nuanced tone of horror and humor is unique, and no one can write like them.  Still, I gave it a shot in film school, and was lucky enough to cast some talented actors who were willing to go for it (not a given for a film school production by any means).

Another interesting bit of trivia is that this is one of first two projects at NYU Film School to have been shot on video.  Just when it was first becoming an alternative to shooting film stock, but before '24p' was even a term that consumers could throw around at cocktail parties.
