Congratulations to Tom Glavine and Greg Maddux for being voted into Cooperstown. Both were virtual shoe-ins to be inducted as their respective records, primarily as part of a legendary three-headed pitching monster (along with Tom Smoltz) down in Atlanta, were pretty much impeccable. Mets fans might not have the best memories of Glavine thanks to one particularly important first-inning 8-run blowup once he became a member of their team, but nonetheless, no one is debating the worthiness of either player.
And with the mess that Major League Baseball is at the moment in terms of determining who is and who isn't worthy of the lifetime achievement honor (thanks to the many PED scandals and suspicions and hypocrisies of both players and brass), this famous Nike spot from the 90s takes on a special, delicious sort of meaning. Two enormously talented guys who played the game the right way come out on top in the end. Heather Locklear (who probably still looks good) aside, the dorky hurlers clearly had the last laugh.
